Festivals

The main festivals of the temple are :

    1.Navaratri (September/October)

    2.Thrikkarthika (November/December)

    3.Pooram (March/April).

     In addition to these,

    4.Illam Nira (August/September)

    5.Vavarat (October/November)

     also been celebrated.


Navaratri

The Navaratri is celeberated in this temple in the Malayalam month of Kanni (September/October). It is from Pradama to Navami followed by Vijayadasami on the10th day. On each day of the celeberation,different facets of Devi is worshipped.This celeberation coincides with Dasara in the other parts of India.

During these days, the temple is decorated with flowers and lights . On the Durgastami day, the front side of the temple is decorated with plantam fruits donated by the devotees. Perhaps this is a unique feature of this temple. On all these day there will be cultural programme in the evening.Only temple related programs are conducted like classical music, Panchratn akeertha -nalapanam, oottanthullall etc. On the Vijaya dasami day iniation ofsmall children are done in the temple.

 


Thrikkarthika ( Birthday of Ammathiruvadi)

Karthika of the Malayalam monh Vrischikam (November/December) is celebrated as Birthday of Devi. In this day, Devi is taken out for Seeveli on elephant accompanied with Pandi melam. In this day, Elephant is decorated with Swarna Nettipattam. Swarna Kolam of the Devi is decorated with preceiouse ornaments with jewels embedded in it and Soverigns are hanged in the inner side of the umbrella used for the Ezhunnallippu.

On this day, Annadhanam given to all devotees. Atleast 12000 to 15000 people take the food from the temple as Prasadam. All these are organized by the devotees and with their offerings.
